Karen Burniston Dies

Welcome back to Robin's Crafting Nest!

Today I am moving a little out of my comfort zone... A card with no coloring!  My card is made with just die cuts.  I have these fantastic dies from Karen Burniston that make really cool cards.  I am using three different die sets on this card: Snowman, Word Set 3 - Holiday, and Twist Panel Pop-up.  Now let me tell you the Twist Panel Pop-up make the cutest Pop-up card centers.  When your recipient opens the card the inside pops up and twists open to display your beautiful creation.  All the dies work so well together along with the rest of her die sets and they were really easy to use.  I love how they come with different layering options to help make card designing easier.

Lets take a look.  I started out with plain blue card stock.  I used one of my many snowflake stamps and stamped it with a darker blue ink to make the background.  The snowman and the words were as simple as picking out the paper I wanted to use and cutting them out with the dies.  Just layer the different pieces of the snowman which are all included in the die set and you have an adorable snowman you can accessorize in any way you want.  I added some bling to the center of the snowflake and his buttons.

Now for the inside of the card.  The Twist Panel Pop-up dies were so easy to use.  Karen Burniston has tutorials online in both paper and video format.  I watched the video to make sure I did it correctly the first time.  It was so much easier then I thought it was going to be.  It is a little intimidating at first but once you try it you will want to make many cards this way.  It is such a cute design that can be used for all kinds of occasions.  Just change up your papers and the accessories you use along with the die set.  The set also comes with an adorable banner and some hearts that I didn't use today on this card but will definitely use in the future.

Since I had the different pieces of the snowman I decided I would put different parts of him on the different panels.  This allowed me to make a cute sentiment to go along with the piece asking "Do you want to build a snowman?"

I wanted to provide a closeup of the sentiment and assembled snowman on the inside of the card.  I really enjoyed working with these dies and it made designing an adorable Christmas card really simple.

Di's Digi Stamps Candle Light Mice

Welcome back to Robin's Crafting Nest

This week I created a card that I have never tried before.  I made a Double Gate Fold Card.

I started with 2 pieces of white cardstock that were 8 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches.

I used my Scor-Pal and scored both pieces of cardstock at 2 1/8 inches and at 4 1/4 inches.
Adhere the two large 4 1/4 inch sections together and fold on the score lines to get the Double Gate Fold.  See picture below to see what the fold will look like.

Now that I have my Double Gate Fold Card I needed to decorate it.

I started with the adorable image from Di's Digi Stamps called "Candle Light Mice".  I thought these two were just adorable.  I colored the image with my Copic Markers and then cut die cut it with my Double Stitched Circles dies.  Which gave me this adorable round image to use.

I felt like the inside of the card needed a little something extra.  I decided to use my new Nuvo Aqua Flow Watercolor pens to create a watercolor background and my Dancing Snowflake Frame to frame the sentiment from Power Poppy's Peony Muse stamp set "Sending Love and Light Your Way".  I thought the sentiment went so well with this image because they are lighting the candle.

Double Gate Fold image so you can see how the card folds.

Copic Markers used are:

Mice: E31, E33, E35, E57, E79, R81, E51, E53
Holly Leaves: G24, G28, G29
Holly Berries: R24, R29, R59

Harvest Wreath - DoveArt Studios

Welcome back!

The Creative Basics Dies by Rhea design team is showing off our work this week at Passionate Paper Creations and Friends Facebook page and the Passionate Paper Creations blog.  We have made some wonderful cards to share with you to give lots of ideas on how to use these dies in different ways.

Today I created an easel card using three different die sets in Rhea's new release.

I started with a piece of 6 inch x 12 inch card stock.  I scored the card stock at 3 inches and 6 inches to create the card folds.  I then used the largest Half Double Stitched Circles die at the 3 inch line to create the popup for the easel card.

For my stamp I chose the beautiful Harvest Wreath from DoveArt Studios which is available at C.C. Designs.  I used the largest Double Stitched Circles die to frame my wreath.  The largest circle coordinates with the largest half circle.  The wreath fits perfectly within this circle.

For my sentiment I used the Fancy Rectangle Build A Card Die Set for the frame and the beautiful leaf.

Picture from the side so you can see how it easels.  The popped up sentiment die frame helps to hold the easel open so it stays in one place.

Here are the Copic Markers I used to color the wreath:

Raspberries: RV63, RV66, RV69
Grapes: YG03, YG05, YG07
Holly Berries: R24, R27, R29, R89
Small Berries: R11, R12
Leaves: YG93, YG95, YG97, YG99, G24, G28, G29, E19

You can find the full release of Creative Basics Dies by Rhea through C.C. Designs.

I really enjoyed making this card because I have never made an easel card before.  I am very happy with the way it came out.  Hope you enjoy!

Creative Basics Dies by Rhea

Welcome back to Robin's Crafting Nest!

Today I am going to show you a card I created using dies, card stock and a pen.

Rhea Weigand just released 5 new dies through C.C. Designs called Creative Basics Dies By Rhea.  These dies are amazing!!  All of the dies have a purple coating for easy release.  This is especially important for the wonderful leaves I used on my card because they have such a delicate stem but with the coating I had no issues.

Do you like to doodle or tangle?  I do!  When I saw the Perfectly Layered Dotted Daisies I knew I wanted to tangle on them.  After cutting out the Daisies on white card stock I used my pen to draw different patterns on each flower.  There is so many different options that you can try.  I did mine in black and white but you can always add color.

Simple card to execute with a great impact.

Power Poppy Gladiolus

I love to color flowers and to be outside in the garden.  If you give me a row of stamps to choose from and one is a flower that is most likely the one I will choose to use.  If it is a nice day out you will most likely find me out in my flower or vegetable garden.

This weeks sponsor at Passionate Paper Creations and Friends is Power Poppy and all of their stamps are right up my coloring alley.  The beautiful images are created by artist Marcella Hawley.  I just love her work and there isn't an image that she has that I would not love for my collection.

Today I chose to color the Gladioli Digital Stamp Set.  I love Gladiolus flowers.  They come in so many colors.  I have them growing in my garden here in Maryland and I can't wait for them to bloom.  The Gladiolus can grow to over 3 feet tall so you should stake them when planting to make sure they have the support needed for their beautiful flowers when they bloom.

The Gladiolus grows from a corm instead of from a bulb.  I was new to corms when I picked up some gladiolus at the store so I did lots of research on the best ways to grow them.  If you live in zone 7 or above you can over winter your corms in the ground with no problem but I live in zone 6 so I have to dig up my corms before the first frost to ensure their survival for the next planting season.

Corms are replaced every year by the Gladiolus with growth of a new corm. The new corm forms at the shoot base just above the old corm.  As the plants grow and flower, the old corm is used up and shrivels away. The new corm that replaces the old corm grows in size, especially after flowering is done.  Corms can form many small cormlets called cormels, from the bottom of the new growing corms.  The cormels are used to propagate additional Gladiolus.  If you continue to dig up your corms every year you will have continuous Gladiolus because of the small cormlets that eventually grow into large corms.  Soon your garden will be full of beautiful Gladiolus.

OK enough about growing the flowers lets show you some cards made with this beautiful Gladioli Digital Stamp Set by Power Poppy.

For these cards I used my wonderful Creative Basic Dies and embossing folders.

For the first card I wanted to share some pink Gladiolus.  I used Fancy Rectangles and Layers Die Set and the Picnic Quilt Embossing Folder.  I just love the pattern the embossing folder leaves on your card stock.

Copic Markers I used:

Flowers: RV21, RV23, RV25, RV29
Leaves: YG21, YG03, YG17, YG67, YG99

For the second card I wanted to share some orange Gladiolus.  I also used the sentiment from Power Poppy's Loving Tulips Stamp Set.  I used my Fancy Circles Die Set and the Basic Stitched Flags Die Set.  It is amazing to me how different an image can look when you just change a some of the colors.

Copic Markers I used:

Flowers: YR12, YR16, YR68, R05
Leaves: YG21, YG03, YG17, YG67, YG99

I also used my wonderful Creative Basics Dies.  For this card I used the hearts from the Grace Build-A-Card Die Kit and the Cutting Edge Borders I Die Set.  I love how they both have the little stitching that goes around the edges.

Here are the Copic Markers I used to color my image

Peony Jar

I created a beautiful card to share today using my fabulous Creative Basics Dies.  I really love these dies, they cut so nicely using my Sizzix Big Shot.  The Grace Build-A-Card die set makes the most adorable round card.  I love the fancy edges.  I also incorporated the Fancy Circles die set to frame my sentiment.  For my image I chose Peony Vase cling stamp from Stampendous.  I love peonies because you can get them in so many beautiful colors.  I had a lot of fun coloring the vase as well, it just reminded me of old blue china my Grandmother used to collect.

Here are the Copic Markers I used to color the image

Big News

I am so very excited!  I have been taking Copic marker coloring classes at my local scrapbooking store for a little over 2 years now.  I love coloring with Copic markers.  I really got hooked on the markers when I took a class with the very talented Rhea Weigand. Her classes move really fast, are a lot of fun, and are all about learning different techniques you can do with your markers.  I have had the opportunity to take eight of her classes so far and I learn so much at each of them.

Here is the exciting news. The last time Rhea was in town I was invited to join her design team for her Creative Basics line of dies and her design team for Passionate Paper Creations and Friends on Facebook.  I really feel honored to be asked to join this talented group of women on the design team.  This is such a wonderful opportunity to express my artistic side.  It has been a whirlwind so far.  I have a lot to learn and I am going to enjoy every minute of it.

Hopefully you will be reading a lot from me in the future as I add my cards to the blog.  I am very excited to share something that brings me great joy.  I hope you enjoy them.
